Qualifications can be earned in any order with the exception that the Mission Commander (MC) qualification requires the ATC, CATCC, C2/ACU, and AIC qualifications. ### 2.1.1 Qualification Process Status is monitored on a qualification by qualification level, a controller is either UI, CONTROL, or INST for each individual qualification. By default a controller has the under instruction (UI) status for all qualifications. An UI controller can operate as a controller under the direct supervision of a controller with the instructor (INST) status for that qualification. Upon completing their check for a qualification, that controller gains the qualified controller (CONTROL) status for that qualification. A qualified controller can operate in any capacity they are qualified for in the same mission as a mission commander (MC) controller. Controllers with the Mission Commander (MC) qualification can operate in a mission independently in any capacity they are qualified for, and supervise any qualified controllers. MC qualified controllers can earn instructor (INST) status in a particular qualification, an INST controller can supervise a UI controller in the qualification they are INST for, and provide sign offs in that qualification. ### 2.1.2 Qualification Check The qualification check is an evaluation by the instructor of the knowledge level of the UI controller. Checks shall not be conducted on the same day as any sign offs that are part of the qualification being checked. Checks may include instruction, but it is the duty of the instructor to determine whether the controller’s knowledge level is sufficient to operate without direct supervision. ### 2.1.3 Instructor Qualification > [!todo] ## 2.2 Organic Controllers Promotion Organic controllers are those members who are permanent full time members of VAW-126. Organic controllers begin at the rank of ENS. Once an organic controller achieves CONTROL status in any of the 4 core qualifications (ATC,CATCC,C2/ACU, or AIC) they earn promotion to LT(JG). Once a controller achieves CONTROL Status in the MC qualification, they earn promotion to LT. Organic LTs have their name placed on the side of their respective hawkeye. ## 2.3 Transfer Controllers Promotion Transfer controllers are members who are FMQ in a different squadron but transfer to VAW-126 with the intent of being a permanent full time member. Transfer controllers remain at the rank they last held in their original squadron until they achieve MC or 3 months from transfer. Once a transfer controller qualifies as an MC, they become an organic controller. If a transfer controller is not able to qualify as an MC within 3 months, they become an organic controller and their rank reflects the appropriate status. ## 2.3 Tour of Duty Controllers Promotion Tour of Duty (TOD) controllers are members who are FMQ in a different squadron but transfer to VAW-126 with the intent of being a temporary full time member. TOD controllers remain at the rank they last held in their original squadron for the duration of their tour of duty. If a TOD controller chooses to remain in VAW-126 on a permanent basis, they become a transfer controller or organic controller based on their qualification status.
