Updated: 2024-08-06 --- >[!note] > vCSG-3 Mashal and Tower operations more closely resemble "CQ" Carrier Ops than "Cyclic" Carrier Ops in order to support a variety of pilot skill levels while providing an authentic feeling experience. # Carrier Control Area (CCA) The CCA surrounds the carrier in a **50NM** radius and **extends from the surface to infinity**. This airspace is constantly monitored by radar controllers and the controller will be referred to as **"Marshal"**. # Carrier Control Zone (CCZ) The CCZ surrounds the carrier in a 5NM radius and up to 2500 ft in altitude unless otherwise designated for special operations. The controller will referred to as "**Tower**". ![[CATCC AOR.png]] # Marshal A Marshal's main responsibility is to provide control (Positive/Procedural) and arrival information to inbound aircraft. In CASE II/III conditions Marshal is also responsible for controlling departing aircraft. In vCSG-3, the Marshal controller performs the real life roles of Redcrown, Strike, Departure and Marshal, they control aircraft from their initial check in until they depart the marshal stack, and from launch to check out for departures. # Tower Tower is responsible for any aircraft within the CCZ with the exception of aircraft that are within the Marshal stack at 2000 MSL during recoveries. Their job is to ensure the safety of operations by making sure aircraft maintain appropriate distance from each other. In vCSG-3 the Tower controller performs the real life roles of Tower (PriFly), Case 3 Final Approaches, and the deck handlers (deckboss). Tower controls aircraft in the CCZ, the pattern, on final approach, and on the deck of the carrier. # Landing Signal Officer (LSO) The LSO's callsign is "Paddles". They will start to assume responsibility of aircraft abeam the carrier on the downwind leg (also known as the 180) until the aircraft lands or bolters. Their job is to ensure safe and expeditious recovery of all aircraft, however their control over an aircraft may be overridden by Tower when the Tower controller deems necessary.
