# Flight Instruments
The flight instruments in the F-14 Tomcat are used continuously while flying. Scanning these instruments during flight is the only way to become a good pilot and the only way to fly when in IMC/IFR.
At least once every 15 seconds a quick scan of these instruments is recommended.
# Cockpit Overview
Since these are critical to flight, and this is an airplane these instruments and located in 3,4,6,8,9. With supporting information in 2 & 10.

# Left Instrument Panel
Vertical Velocity Indicator displays in 1000’s ft per minute
Speedometer or Machmeter indicates both Knots per hour (inner) and mach (outer). Lower left knob adjusts the white pointer to emphasize a speed setting
Radar Altimeter shows AGL up to 5000 ft. The knob on the lower left sets the warning altitude. Only accurate in level flight.
Baro Altimeter shows altitude base on pressure and is reliant on QFE/QNF information to be accurate. This is set with the lower left knob.

# Right instrument panel
SDI or Standby Attitude Indicator show aircraft orientation compared to level flight. Lower right knob cages/uncages and allows for adjustment.
BDHI or Bearing Distance Heading Indicator show TACAN direction (wide needle) and distance (inner dial) or ADF heading (narrow needle)

# Center console
Shows how fast in degrees per second you are turning. When the center block is over the upside down dog houses you are turn at 3 deg/sec or a standard rate turn (360 degrees in 2 minutes, centered between you are at a half standard rate turn or 1.5 deg/sec (360 degrees in 4 minutes). The slip indicator shows how much slip/yaw.

# VDI
Black rectangles move indicate VDI is operational and is receiving data.

You can adjust BINGO with the knob on the upper right of the fuel gauge.
